The Miami Hurricanes and The Betting Public
Tonight the Miami Hurricanes take on Marquette at 7:15 pm EST. In another article posted this week on another website, sportsbook managers were thinking Miami would be bet up higher by public money.
“The public thinks Miami of Florida is a top-five team”, said LVH SuperBook oddsmaker Ed Salmons, a 20-year industry veteran who’s considered by his peers to be one of the sharpest in the business. “If you look through all the experts and percentage guys, they just don’t think a lot of Miami. But the public, every time Miami plays, they’re all over them. If there’s no resistance from wise guys, (Thursday’s line) will get back to 6.”
This was based on the last game where Miami faced Illinois and opened as a 5.5 favorite and that number was bet up to as high as 8.5 points. It does not appear to be happening today though. Here we are at 12:00 pm EST day of game and the line is steady at 5.5 points. The public is showing a slight lean to Miami (62%) but not nearly the amount they were in the last game (76%). It’s true there is enough time left to take the game to 6 or even 6.5 but you will not see the wild moves that we saw on the last game.
The line came out at 5 then went to 6 and then dropped back down again when it was announced that Miami’s team leading rebounder Reggie Johnson would miss tonight’s game with a leg injury. His availability for the rest of tournament, should they still be playing, is uncertain. Bet this game now at one of our top sportsbooks. Get big deposit bonuses.
